I like very much

I like a lot of modern classical music & Zoe Keating has a new album out called Into the Trees. If you liked One Cello x 16_ Natoma I think you'll like this just as much.

Chocolate now but what's next?

Hey Terry, those chocolate covered possums w/the nougat centers you wanted? Well we're going to need to rethink the recipes, the price of chocolate has gone through the roof. In fact food, energy, clothing & lots of other consumer goods are going up fast price wise. I wonder why the Obama administration is lying to the US public on this? Oh well back to the kitchen I go.

Living US History

Today in History 21 October:

1797 – In Boston Harbor, the 44-gun United States Navy frigate USS Constitution is launched. She is the oldest ship in the world still in commission. Old Ironsides rests at pier but I do wish she was on the open seas working again.

1781, Lord Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington at the Battle of Yorktown, effectively ending the War of Independence. What I think is funny is he (Cornwallis) didn't have the stones to go surrender himself, he sent a aide to do it.

I’ve no doubt that if Seattle or Boston or Manhattan goes up in a bright white flash there will be those who blame it all on Bush. We squandered the world’s good will. We threw away the opportunity to atone, and lashed out.  Really? You want to see lashing out? Imagine Kabul and Mecca and Baghdad and Tehran on 9/14 crowned with mushroom clouds: that’s lashing out. Imagine the President in the National Cathedral castigating Islam instead of sitting next to an Imam who's giving a homily. Mosques burned, oil fields occupied, smart bombs slamming into Syrian palaces. We could have gone full Roman on anyone we wanted, but we didn’t. And we won’t.

Which is why this war will be long.

I'll note the idiot who threatened to burn the Koran had less than a 100 followers. Yet this idiot via the MSM & the chattering class need to score their disdain for the USA has caused worldwide riots. WTG guys! more...

Formula One has announced the 2011 schedule.

The Indian Grand Prix will be slotted near the end of the season in 2011, pending the homologation of the new circuit in Delhi. The season will also have an unusually late finale--Nov. 27 in Brazil.

Bernie Ecclestone has not shuffled around the other flyaway races, so the season will end with an unprecedented run of six events outside Europe. He did take the logical option of putting Japan and South Korea back-to- back, which is not the case this year.

Brazil has replaced Abu Dhabi as the last race, presumably because India and Abu Dhabi are very close on the map. Australia now stands alone, two weeks ahead of Malaysia.

2011 F1 World Championship

March 13: Bahrain

March 27: Australia

April 10: Malaysia

April 17: China

May 8: Turkey

May 22: Spain

May 29: Monaco

June 12: Canada

June 26: Europe

July 10: Great Britain

July 24: Germany

July 31: Hungary

Aug. 28: Belgium

Sept. 11: Italy

Sept. 25: Singapore

Oct. 9: Japan

Oct. 16: Korea

Oct. 30: India

Nov. 13: Abu Dhabi

Nov. 27: Brazil

This looks like a very good challenge for the teams, weather of course but also heat & new tracks.

1965 – Hurricane Betsy makes its second landfall near New Orleans, Louisiana, leaving 76 dead and $1.42 billion ($10-12 billion in 2005 dollars) in damages, becoming the first hurricane to top $1 billion in unadjusted damages. FEMA slow to respond. Bush widely blamed.  I was there, We had just moved from Houma to the Irish Chanel when she came ashore. Part of the roof over my bedroom was torn off. No water for over a week, no services either. The then mayor Vic Schiro, Governor John McKithen, Sen Russel Long & LBJ all got on WWL tv and said this would never happen again. Uh huh, right.

Samizdata Illuminatus (Arkham, Massachusetts)

To pursue a so-called Third Way is foolish. We had our experience with this in the 1960s when we looked for a socialism with a human face. It did not work, and we must be explicit that we are not aiming for a more efficient version of a system that has failed. - Vaclav Klaus

A nice recipe to try

Balti Butter Chicken

Ingredients:
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or pork tenderloin (about 2 pounds), cut up in bite-sized pieces

1/2 small carton plain yogurt  (about 1/2 cup)
1/2 cup - 1 cup ground almonds
3 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp crushed bay leaves
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp cinnamon
3 tsp garam masala
2 tsp cardamom
1 tsp ginger pulp (I used a small finger)
1 tsp garlic pulp (I used 4 cloves)
14 oz can tomatoes ( I use either Red Gold or Muir Glen petite diced )
2 tsp salt

3/4 stick butter
1 tablespoon corn oil
2 medium onions, sliced or chopped
2 tablespoons fresh coriander, chopped
4 tablespoons cream (optional)
1/4 teaspoon each cayenne, black & white pepper (optional)

Preparation:
Place the yogurt, ground almonds, all the dry spices, ginger, garlic, tomatoes and salt in a large mixing bowl and blend together thoroughly.

Cut up the chicken/pork and add to the yogurt mixture, blending well.  Set aside.

Melt the butter and oil in a medium karahi, wok or frying pan. Add the onions and fry for about 3 minutes.

Add the chicken/pork mixture and stir-fry for about 10 minutes.
Stir in about half of the coriander and mix well.

If you want a thinner consistency, add cream (I use yogurt), stir in well and bring to the boil.

Serve over rice ( I use jasmine ), garnished with the remaining chopped coriander.

Makes about 8 1-cup servings.

A cold fruit salad & ice tea is what I normally pair this with.

Facts and figures on the new-look home for the British GP

Last updated: 9th July 2010

Silverstone facts

New-look track: Silverstone

This year's British Grand Prix will be the first to be run on the new 'Arena' section of Silverstone after the Northamptonshire circuit recently underwent its biggest overhaul since the early 1990s.

It has taken £5 million to complete the new section, which has been completed ahead of further changes - including a new pit and paddock complex - promised in time for next year's race.

However, there are a host of other significant numbers that have gone into the redevelopment, and even more that go into the making of the weekend...

Click here for a circuit guide.

* The new circuit is now 3.66 miles, or 5.89km, 750 metres longer than the old track and which is expected to approximately add four seconds to a lap time, which is projected at one minute 23.13secs.

* There are now 18 turns, with the projected average speed likely to be around 157mph/252kph.

* It took 108,000 man hours, between November 2009 and March 2010, to complete the new grand prix circuit.

* 31,000 square metres of tarmac and 33,000 tonnes of asphalt was used for the new sections.

* 5,100 metres of debris fencing (of which 4,000m is new) and 7,000m metres of triple Armco (of which 4,500m is new) has been erected or re-positioned around the new circuit.

* 150,000 cubic metres of earth has been excavated and moved to form raised banks.

* 22,000 square metres of new spectator areas have been created.

* 58,000 square metres of asphalt and 56,000 square metres of gravel have gone into the new run-off areas.

* 3,000m of new kerbs have been laid, along with 4,000 square metres of astro turf, whilst 2,700 cubic metres of concrete has been used around the site.

* For the fans there are 16 giant screens dotted around the track.

* There will be over 860 highly-trained volunteer marshals on duty, which includes 405 spectator marshals, 388 incident marshals and 70 flag marshals. There are also breakdown and rescue personnel, start-line marshals, incident officers and pit marshals.

* Throughout the three days of the grand prix, a team of more than 100 medical staff, including 40 doctors, will be on site for both competitors and visitors.

* 14 people are employed to cut the grass at Silverstone, as well as 15 painters to keep it looking smart.

* The amount of TV cable laid out around Silverstone for the race would stretch from Dover to Calais and back.

* An estimated 20,000 bottles of mineral water, 10,000 bottles of wine, and approximately 8,024 bottles of champagne will be consumed during the weekend, with approximately 13,340 pieces of cake eaten.

* 3,583 catering staff will be on hand to serve, which includes 127 chefs.

My 1st British F1 was a bit hair shirt, heck most of the racing in the UK seemed to be that way. It looks like that may have changed in the last 25 years.

Happy, Happy! Joy, Joy!

Oh my! The F1 silly season is starting early this year, Bruno Senna won't be at Silverstone. He's been dropped by Hispania and that puts them on the hot seat for season money. It'll be fun to watch what happens & I think Renault did well by signing RK as soon as they did.
